Officers conducted a search warrant in the 1500 block of Hillcrest Dr. in Manhattan on April 20, 2023, around 2:45 p.m. which led to the arrest of Sierra Wells and Thesiaus Robinson, both 20, both of Manhattan after drugs and guns were found. (AP) — Kansas’ Democratic governor on Thursday vetoed a sweeping set of anti-transgender measures, including a ban on gender-affirming care for children and teenagers, but the Republican lawmakers who pushed them appeared to have the votes to override most of her actions. During Tuesday’s legislative session, Manhattan City Commissioners discussed the implementation of a Rural Housing Incentive District program. An RHID captures incremental gain in property taxes for a housing development project which can be used to reimburse the project’s infrastructure costs. The Riley County Board of Commissioners signed a disaster declaration today, April 18th, activating  disaster emergency plans to combat a wildfire burning in a northern section of the county. According to a news release, “The declaration was issued because the fires near Indian Hill Road and Mariadahl Road imminently threaten to cause wide-spread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property in disaster proportion.” Commission Chair Kathryn Focke signed the declaration, which will remain in effect for seven days unless an early continuation or termination is deemed appropriate.
