BELLE PLAINE, Kan. (AP) — Thousands of cattle in feedlots in southwestern Kansas have died of heat stress due to soaring temperatures, high humidity and little wind in recent days, industry officials said. The final toll remains unclear, but as of Thursday at least 2,000 heat-related deaths had been reported to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, the state agency that assists in disposing of carcasses. Agency spokesman Matt Lara said he expects that number to rise as more feedlots report losses from this week’s heat wave. Freedom, strength, and resilience were the themes set for this year’s Manhattan Juneteenth art auction, held Thursday at Manhattan’s Douglass Activity Center. The second-annual event showcased works from artists across the community. These pieces were created by artists of all ages and skill levels.  Event organizer and artist Hilary Wahlen spoke with KMAN about the event, and she said that one change was made to the auction this year that benefited the event very well. (Kansas State Athletics) – K-State and head coach Suzie Fritz revealed the entire volleyball schedule for the 2022 season Thursday, which features 12 home matches and one home exhibition contest at Bramlage Coliseum. MFD released notice Thursday, indicating flowing and painting will continue through late Fall. The program is a yearly task necessary to flush out water lines and ensure hydrants operate as intended when needed. Emporia State Bank and a 69-year-old woman were listed as the victims of a larceny reported Wednesday, according to Riley County police. RCPD filed the report after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of Poyntz. Police officials say there a woman reported her debit card was stolen and used to make multiple purchases from Apple and a local Wendy’s restaurant. The loss associated with the crime is about $112. The case remains under investigation.
