A nonprofit that purchased the Wareham Opera House has released a new survey, looking for community input on future programming plans for the venue. Wareham Hall Incorporated will oversee operations, and the associated Wareham Hall Renovation Fund took over ownership of the space in October – planning to turn the historical property into a regional place for the performing arts. Co-Founder Blade Mages says they launched the community survey Nov. 22, in recognition of the venue being an integral part of Manhattan. (Kansas State Athletics) – Kansas State junior Deuce Vaughn is one of 10 running backs in the country to be named a semifinalist for the 2022 Doak Walker Award, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced Tuesday. It is the second-straight year that Vaughn is a semifinalist for the nation’s premier running back honor – the first time in school history a Wildcat has been named a semifinalist for the award twice in a career – while it is the fourth time a K-State running back has reached semifinalist status. Riley County Commissioners have proclaimed November 2022 as Native American Heritage Month. Commission Chair Greg McKinley says the State of Kansas is historically home to many native nations including – the Kaw, Osage, and Pawnee. Nathan Dixon accepted the honor on behalf of the Native Americans of Riley County. McKinley noted that Kansas is currently home to four federally recognized native tribes: Prairie Band Potawatomi; the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas; the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska; and the Sac and Fox Nation of Missouri in Kansas and Nebraska. The Riley County Law Board met in Ogden Monday, with a number of local citizens turning out for the regularly scheduled monthly meeting. At least 50 concerned community members showed up, many of whom did so after receiving an anonymous flier in the mail encouraging people to attend. The Law Board, typically meets at Manhattan City Hall, but holds two meetings annually outside of the Little Apple, meeting also in September in Leonardville. The Lakeside Heights Sewer District #3 and the University Park Water District #4 projects continue to face challenges. Between a 43% increase in costs, and enduring six years of little progress with a lack of accurate and complete information, the projects are likely to be abandoned. Another Public Hearing regarding the special tax districts was well attended Monday at the Riley County Commissioners Meeting. A Manhattan mental healthcare provider is the recipient of a $15,000 grant to help with its transition to a certified community behavioral health clinic or CCBHC. Pawnee Mental Health Services Monday was announced as the recipient for the grant, awarded by the Tower Foundation and publicized by the Kansas Attorney General’s Office. The CCBHC model is being implemented by mental health organizations around Kansas, which the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration says is designed to ensure better access to comprehensive behavioral health care and requires things such as 24/7 access to crisis services as well as assistance with…
