The historic Wareham Opera House is now under new ownership. The new owner, Wareham Hall Inc., was formed back in March of this year. According to an October 7th press release, the organization officially purchased the building back on September 23rd. Wareham Inc. Co-Founder Blade Mages spoke about how this project came about. Mages said he has high hopes for the project and plans on Wareham becoming a highly versatile venue. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and community organizations are partnering to spread awareness and provide support for victims. The Crisis Center Inc. hosted a silent witness ceremony to honor Kansans that have been killed, and therefore silenced, by domestic violence. Silhouettes of eight women and two children were displayed in front of the Riley County Courthouse, and Crisis Center Executive Director Kathy Ray explained why. Ray also spoke about how prevalent these issues are in just Kansas alone. Community members and organization partners stood alongside these silent victims and told their stories. OLATHE, Kan. (AP) — A Kansas mother whose 17-month-old son died in a fire after she left him home alone was sentenced Thursday to three years of probation. Karlie Phelps, of Shawnee, pleaded guilty in August to involuntary manslaughter and endangering a child. If she violates the terms of her probation, she faces 18 years in prison. Authorities say her son’s body was found in February in a crib as firefighters battled flames. The child’s father, Nicholas Ecker has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated arson. Doctor William Richter has been a member of the Manhattan Rotary Club for forty-one years. He is now recognized by the 2022 Distinguished Service Award from Rotary International. Rotary District 5710 Governor Vern Henricks reads the inscription on the crystal award. Richter offered a quick appreciation for the award, but was more pleased talking about the Rotary Club. Only fifty of those members are recognized by the international award annually. Richter spoke about the local clubs instead of about himself. Rotary Club members will join Friends of the KAW for the Fall Kansas River Clean Up Saturday morning.
