Traffic passes through a crosswalk on Anderson Avenue in Manhattan across from the K-State campus Thursday morning. Brian Johnson, city public works director, told The Mercury/News Radio KMAN that a two-hour closure is planned for 8:30 a.m. Monday to take down the crosswalk’s masts. Johnson said it was in the city’s plans to eventually remove it, but a recent lightning strike expedited that removal.

By Emma Loura Following a public hearing Thursday, Riley County officials nullified the city’s plan to use tax incentives for a duplex development. County commissioners unanimously denied the proposal from the Manhattan City Commission. The plan would have authorized the use of a state program called Reinvestment Housing Incentive Districts, or RHID. An RHID is a program to help build homes in a community by capturing the incremental increase in property tax revenue from the new development and giving it to the developer to cover certain costs for a particular period of time. Kansas State basketball fans now know who the Wildcats will be facing come conference play this upcoming season after the Big 12 released its scheduling matrix for the 2025-26 season on Thursday. For the women, K-State will face traditional rivals Iowa State and Kansas twice and Houston twice as part of its league slate, while the men will have with home-and-home matchups with Kansas, TCU and West Virginia. Tuesday night marked the 105th season debut for the Manhattan Municipal Band. Although, a little later than normal, due to being rained out of its first three scheduled concerts between May 26 and June 3. The hour-and-a-half performance featured Anna Wimmer, music teacher at Rock Creek Middle School, playing the piccolo in “Wrenn Polka” while Devon Autry, a senior-to-be at Kansas State University, took the spotlight on percussion during “Xylophonia.” A special treat halfway through the concert was about 200 fifth- through 12th-grade students, who are participating in K-State’s Summer Music Camp this week, joining the municipal band for the songs…
