Star senior running back Kyle Monangai will not be playing in Thursday’s Rate Bowl, Scarlet Knights’ head coach Greg Schiano announced during a Tuesday morning press conference. By Tim Everson Kansas State snuck in a final incoming transfer before hitting the road for Thursday’s Rate Bowl, and he may have been the best of the bunch so far. Former Arizona safety Gunner Maldonado signed with the Wildcats on Monday after visiting Manhattan early last week. Maldonado, who will be playing for the third Wildcat team of his career, started his college career at Northwestern in 2020 before transferring to Arizona after playing in three games in his true freshman season under Pat Fitzgerald in Evanston. West Georgia safety Mar’quavious Moss, Boston College wide receiver Jerand Bradley, Ohio State linebacker Gabe Powers and USC offensive tackle Amos Talalele all signed with K-State on Friday and Saturday, bringing the Wildcats’ incoming transfer total to six. A Manhattan man spent the weekend in jail after being arrested Friday night on three counts of violating a protection order. 31-year-old Malcolm Theodore Wooten was arrested at RCPD headquarters around 5 p.m. for three counts of violating an extended abuse order. Wooten was still confined at the time of Sunday’s report on a total bond of $12,000.

A long-time Washburn University professor and his wife were killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning in Brown County. The Kansas Highway Patrol crash log says that a 2016 Freightliner was traveling Westbound on K-20, and a 2019 Ford F-150 was traveling Southbound on US-75 around 8:00 a.m. when the semi-truck failed to stop at the stop sign at the K-20/US-75 junction and struck the Ford F150. The Riley County Police Department is looking for clues related to an aggravated burglary that occurred Sunday in the 200 block of Seventh Street in Ogden. RCPD officers filed the report around 4:20 p.m. and listed a 71-year-old man as the victim who said unknown suspects broke into his apartment to steal various items such as amps, speakers, and even a guitar. The total loss associated with the theft is around $2,000, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers. No arrests had been reported as of Monday.
