Jury selection begins Monday in the trial of a Wamego man charged in the September 2021 fentanyl-related overdose death of a 21-year-old man. McKaine Farr is charged with knowingly distributing fentanyl laced with oxycodone, causing the death of Jayson Ebert, of Wamego. The state plans to call at least one witness on Monday, with much more testimony expected to take place on Tuesday. Farr faces similar charges in a separate case as well along with two other co-defendants. The trial is scheduled to last through next week in Judge Jeff Elder’s courtroom in Pottawatomie County District Court.

A Manhattan woman is jailed following an alleged assault Wednesday in Manhattan. According to the Riley County Police Department, 34-year-old Deborah Cobler was arrested in the 2500 block of Farm Bureau Road on probable cause charges, including two counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement officers, interference and criminal damage to property. Cobler is accused of using a baseball bat to strike a door at the home of a 23-year-old woman in the Redbud Estates neighborhood and assaulting two male police officers. She was taken into custody shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday and remains jailed on a $20,000 bond.
