MANHATTAN, Kan. (Kansas State Athletics) – K-State’s Blake Adams and Dominic Johnson were taken with consecutive picks in the 13th round of the 2022 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Tuesday, as Adams was selected by the Colorado Rockies (No. 386 overall) and Johnson was chosen by the Detroit Tigers (No. 387 overall). Adams and Johnson are the second and third selections from K-State in this year’s MLB Draft, as Dylan Phillips was taken in the eighth round by the Los Angeles Angels on Monday. A standing-room only crowd came out Monday for a public forum on the future of Parks and Recreation programming, held at Manhattan Fire HQ. Manhattan in June had announced the possibility of programs being modified or suspended depending on the city’s revenue picture into Fall and Winter, leading to organization and conversation around the topic by numerous residents including local educator Josh Runyan. Two former Wamego teachers appeared in Pottawatomie District Court Tuesday morning. 51-year-old Allen and 55-year-old Deborah Sylvester appeared in front of Judge Erich Campbell. Each are charged with unlawful sexual relations involving a student who was 17, later turned 18, during the 2020-21 school year. On May 31st, the married couple resigned their positions as teachers. Allen was a middle school Science teacher, and Deborah taught Math at the high school in USD 320. Honorable Campbell ordered a no-contact order between both defendants and the alleged victim. (Kansas State Athletics) – K-State’s all-time home run leader and two-way star Dylan Phillips was selected in the eighth round (No. 238 overall) of the 2022 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Los Angeles Angels Monday. Phillips, a two-time All-Big 12 Second Team selection, is the first Wildcat taken in this year’s MLB Draft and the fourth K-State draft pick in the top 10 rounds over the last four seasons.
