A Manhattan 9-year-old entered a rocket as his STEM Project at the Riley County Fair, Friday afternoon. Gantt Chase from the CiCo Shamrocks 4-H Club already has a background in rocketry. Participants submitted their projects, along with evidence that it is operational, directly to a judge. The judges critiqued the projects as they were submitted, giving compliments on design and advice on improvements. Chase also had the opportunity to interact with a professional engineer. The Riley County Fair wraps up Monday at CiCo Park.

Johnson (women’s track and field), Linares (women’s tennis) and Phillips (baseball) each claimed the honor outright in their sports, while Greisen tied Alabama’s Darcy Jennings and Oklahoma’s Cameron Guild for the accolade in women’s rowing. A Scott City man is jailed in Riley County on charges of alleged child sex crimes. The Riley County Police Department says 21-year-old Jessie Ivey was arrested Wednesday afternoon on a Sumner County warrant alleging single counts of rape and aggravated indecent liberties with a child under the age of 14. An official with the Sumner County Attorney’s Office tells KMAN the victim reported the incident to law enforcement on July 8.
