By Rose Gruenbacher Chiropractor Clark Petersen’s trial began Wednesday morning in Riley County District Court, with opening statements from both sides and testimony from the state’s first witness. Assistant Riley County attorney Michael Blackburn told the jury Petersen, a former Manhattan chiropractor with his own practice, violated the trust and vulnerability of 19 women who went to him for treatment. K-State has sold 5.17 acres of land, including the Unger Complex building, to the KSU Foundation. At a special meeting on July 30, the Kansas Board of Regents approved this purchase. The 5.17 acres and building cost $2,669,221. The KSU Foundation intends to sell the property to a developer, to convert the building into apartments. In April, the Manhattan Urban Area Planning Board rezoned the Unger Complex from a business commercial property to a residential one. The City of Manhattan approved this rezoning in May. A Manhattan man and Junction City woman were arrested Tuesday for multiple charges, including interference with law enforcement and unlawful discharge of a firearm. The arrests stem from an investigation into a report of shots fired on Sunday morning. Yabdiel Manuel Fargas Rodriguez, 22, and Jazmine Laureta Smith, 20, were arrested by Riley County Police Officers in connection with the incident. A Manhattan man is jailed on a host of charges after Riley County Police say he interfered with police trying to execute a felony arrest warrant. 22-year-old Yabdiel Rodriguez faces two counts of interference, for trying to flee from being arrested Wednesday afternoon. He was also charged with two counts of interference with law enforcement and possession of an opiate, stemming from an incident reported on Sunday. Officers filed a report for violation of a protection order and stalking in the 1300 block of Marlatt Ave in Manhattan on August 12, 2025, at approximately 7:08 a.m. A 38-year-old woman was listed as the victim when it was reported a 36-year-old man violated a protection order.
