A Manhattan woman is set to serve 12 months of probation, after reaching a plea agreement with county prosecutors earlier this month. Jessica Miller, 42, was granted probation by Riley County District Court Judge John Bosch on July 14 during a plea hearing and sentencing for her case. Miller pleaded guilty to two counts of endangering a child, possession of THC and possession of drug paraphernalia. K-State on Wednesday announced the closure of the school’s center for LGBTQ+ connection, advocacy and education. Thomas Lane, vice president for academic success and student affairs and dean of students, published a letter announcing the closure of the K-State Spectrum Center effective July 31. He did not say what led to the decision to close the center. A recent Kansas study found that the number of students receiving free school lunches more than doubled the expected count in the 2023-2024 school year, and said many should not have qualified. The Kansas Legislative Division of Post Audit (LPA) estimated up to 3,200 students were eligible for free student lunches. MakeMyMove is a company that facilitates relocating households to areas looking for new residents. Commissioners in Thursday’s meeting decided to move forward in the process of a grant application through the state of Kansas to bring new households into the county. The RCPD is investigating the theft of a cargo trailer reported Monday afternoon in the 1800 block of Fair Lane. According to the RCPD, officers filed a report around 4:42 p.m. on July 21 after it was discovered that a white enclosed cargo trailer had been stolen. The trailer belonged to Affordable Electric.
