The Riley County Fish and Game Association will be holding their annual ART Auction and Feed. Ben Jedlicka, Riley County game warden, tells KMAN the event will have food from Ricky’s of Hanover as well as plenty of entertainment. “The entertainment is a silent auction where there is a lot of things donated and they’re on the table and you go around and put a bid down, and then there is a live auction.” He adds that it is a great opportunity to support the Riley County Fish and Game Association, which is involved with several things around the community.…

After breaking ground in September of 2020, Sunset Zoo is nearing the completion of Expedition Asia. Melissa Kirkwood, marketing and development coordinator, tells KMAN the grand opening of the exhibit will be April 9. She says sloth bears, tigers, and leopards will be the main animals taking home in the new exhibit. “We couldn’t be more excited to be giving these animals new environments, and to give the community huge new exhibits and creative exhibits to see these animals,” Kirkwood adds. Members of the Manhattan community came together Tuesday night to show solidarity for the Ukrainian people, following the Russian invasion of the country last week. A candlelit vigil and prayer were held at triangle park.  Olga Volok, one of the event organizers, is originally from Ukraine and has been living in Manhattan since 1996.  She says the purpose of the vigil and march is to show solidarity with Ukraine. Volok was surprised at the sizable crowd gathered to show their support for the Ukrainian people.  The vigil began with a speech from Volok and other Ukrainian immigrants in Manhattan, as well…

The 6A girls state tournament got off to a rousing start for the Manhattan Indians Tuesday night as they were able to hold off a comeback by Hutchinson to claim a 36-31. The 11th seeded team on the 6A West bracket built to as much as a nine point lead in both the second and third quarters, but saw Hutch tie the game at 30 at the end of the 3rd. WICHITA, Kan. — The energy company BP says in new court documents that it wants to appeal a judge’s ruling allowing residents of Mulberry to sue over sharp hikes in natural gas prices last February. The Wichita Eagle reports BP filed two court documents in the last week that indicate it wants the lawsuit dismissed. One seeks permission to appeal Chief District Judge Lori A. Bolton Fleming’s decision on Feb. 8 to let the lawsuit proceed. The second document outlines BP’s belief that it cannot be sued by residents of the town. HILLSBORO, Kan. — Authorities in central Kansas say two Tabor College football players from California died in a crash near Hillsboro. The Kansas Highway Patrol said the single-vehicle crash happened just before 4 a.m. Sunday on a rural road south of Hillsboro. First responders found Johnethon Aviles, of Paso Robles, California, and Christopher Castillo of Tustin, California, dead at the scene. A third Tabor football player, Jonathan Medina, was taken to a Wichita hospital with serious injuries. The Kansas Highway Patrol said Medina was driving a vehicle that went off an embankment and rolled.

LENEXA, Kan. — Lenexa police say a shooting that left three people dead over the weekend apparently was a murder-suicide. Police spokesman Danny Chavez identified those killed early Sunday as 20-year-old John Williamson and 22-year-old Sara Beck, both of Belton, Missouri. A third person, 37-year-old Dustin Johnson, of Lenexa, also died. KSHB-TV reports Chavez said Monday that investigators believe Johnson shot Williamson and Beck before shooting himself.

WICHITA, Kan. — A preliminary hearing has been set for a Wichita man charged with attempted murder, kidnapping and other counts after police say he tried to kill his then-girlfriend in July and shot the woman’s 2-year-old daughter. Television station KAKE reports that a preliminary hearing for 22-year-old Kamden Campos has been set for April 7. Campos is charged with various counts, including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery, kidnapping and weapons charges. Police say Campos lured his girlfriend, along with her two children, to Cheney Reservoir, where he tried to kill her. Police say when she escaped to her car…

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Houston, Texas, man has been sentenced in Missouri to five years in federal prison for defrauding two men out of $1.6 million. Federal prosecutors say 58-year-old Duc Nguyen was sentenced Monday. Nguyen pleaded guilty last year to one count of wire fraud. Prosecutors say he persuaded Phillip Hudnall of Lenexa, Kansas, and his brother, Brian Hudnall, of Kansas City, Missouri, to invest in a plan to buy, refurbish, and sell used oil equipment. The brothers transferred $1.6 million to Nguyen, who used it for trips to Las Vegas and personal expenses. The brothers pleaded guilty…
