WICHITA, Kan. — A third Kansan has been arrested in connection to a shooting that killed a teenager. The Wichita Eagle on Saturday reported police arrested 19-year-old Jakob Oniel Cuble for first-degree murder and aggravated robbery. Court records didn’t list an attorney for Cuble Saturday. He’s the third person arrested in connection to the death of 17-year-old Marcus Sain last year in a Wichita apartment complex shooting, which police say occurred during a drug deal. Nathaniel Saunders and Malcolm Ganther have also been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery for Sain’s death.

TOPEKA, Kan. — A state board has unanimously recommended that the Kansas Supreme Court disbar a prosecutor who’s accused of misleading juries in two separate cases, actions that caused them to be overturned by higher courts. The Kansas Board for Discipline of Attorneys argued that Jacqie Spradling embraced a “win at all costs” attitude in two cases: the 2012 double homicide case and a 2016 rape and sodomy case. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that in both cases, appeals courts tossed out the convictions.

TOPEKA, Kan. — Some wildlife species that were previously absent or rare in Kansas are appearing more often now, including a mountain lion that was caught on video last month roaming through an alley in Wichita. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that mountain lion sighting continues a trend in recent decades that has brought an increased presence of wildlife, including elk, black bears, river otters and armadillos. BURLINGTON, Kan. — A mother and two young children have died in a boating accident that also hospitalized the father. The Kansas City Star says the accident happened on the Neosho River in the area of the Burlington City Dam around 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism says the family of two adults and two children were boating on the river when their vessel stalled in rapid, aerated water. The operator lost control and everyone was thrown out of the boat. Rescue crews saved a man from Shawnee and took him to Burlington Hospital. One…

WICHITA, Kan. — Police say a teenager has drowned in a lake on a Wichita apartment complex grounds. Authorities say the drowning happened around 2 p.m. Sunday when emergency crews were called to the Kingston Cove apartments in south-central Wichita. Officials say the teen was with a group of friends swimming in the lake when he went under the water and did not resurface. The teen’s friends tried to rescue him, and several onlookers jumped in the water to try to help, but could not find him. First responders called to the scene found the teen within 30 minutes and…

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The murder trial for a man accused of a 2017 killing in Lawrence has been delayed yet again. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that the first-degree murder trial for 24-year-old Steven A. Drake III had been scheduled to begin Monday. Court officials have not said why the case is being delayed, but last week, Drake rejected a plea agreement by refusing to show up for his scheduled plea hearing. A new trial date has not been set. Drake is accused of shooting Bryce S. Holladay in the doorway of Drake’s home because Holladay refused to leave the house.

There was an educational session at Manhattan City Hall Auditorium on Friday evening, followed by a fishing session at Anneberg Park on Saturday morning. Tera Panfil, Secretary and Treasurer of the Tuttle Creek Lake Association, spoke on the importance of the event to the community. Kansas State University has been named the seventh most LGBTQ-friendly college, according to study.com. The ranking is out of a list of 50 United States universities and is based on data from LGBTQ advocacy groups, information from faculty and students and other factors. The list takes note of various LGBTQ organizations at K-State, such as the Sexuality and Gender Alliance, Out in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and the Gender Collective. Girls On The Run of the Flint Hills is opening a summer camp. The camp, which debuted in 2019, will provide an experience geared towards fitness and mental health for girls grades 3-5. Both sessions will be in Manhattan. Session one will take place at Lee Elementary on June 21-25 from 8 a.m. to noon, while session two will take place at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary on July 12-16 also from 8 a.m. to noon.
