Manhattan City Commissioners Tuesday unanimously approved the expansion of the Downtown STAR bond district, with a public hearing scheduled to update the redevelopment plan on April 5. The expansion is related to a $43.6 million Art and Light Museum being planned by the DeBruyn’s, owners of The Master Teacher in Manhattan. HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A commercial flight from Huntsville, Alabama, to Denver was diverted to Wichita, Kansas, after a passenger became unruly. News outlets report the problem occurred Sunday morning on a United Airlines flight operated by SkyWest Airlines. A passenger tells WAFF-TV a woman who appeared to be in her 30s was asking for more alcohol, refusing to wear a face mask and cursing. WICHITA, Kan. — Officials have identified a young boy who died after being thrown from a car in a Wichita crash over the weekend. Police say 9-year-old Armani Saucedo, of Wichita, died in the crash that happened around 10:15 p.m. Saturday. Relying on information from police, television station KAKE reports that the crash involved three vehicles, including a car that side-swiped two pickup trucks, causing the 27-year-old driver of the car to lose control and hit a bridge abutment. Police say Armani was a passenger in the car. The drivers of the trucks were not injured.

As Kansas lawmakers consider a bill proposing a constitutional amendment requiring most counties to continue electing sheriffs, Riley County police administration are staying neutral in light of a provision grandfathering in municipalities that abolished the office prior to 2022. HCR 5022 was before the Senate Judiciary Committee Monday, having received the House’s go-ahead on a voice vote in February.
