Spark MHK is launching a new virtual resource hub. In an effort to advance entrepreneurial activity and ignite innovation in the region, Spark MHK was created in July 2020. Sarah Siders, Spark Executive Director, says the organization is continuing to move forward and is now launching a one-stop-shop for all things entrepreneurship. Falling within the city’s annual Asphalt Street Maintenance Program, Public Works Project Coordinator Ken Hays explained that this project serves to replace pavement, upgrade the storm sewers, and provide pedestrian improvements needed along the Kimball / Candlewood corridor. Hays says the city has identified this corridor as an ideal site for a trail, as west of this location the Hudson trail runs north to south as part of Manhattan’s larger Linear Trail system. Manhattan Area Technical College is celebrating National Career Technical Education Day tomorrow. According to MATC president Jim Genandt, CTE Day is when students commit to the technical college they plan to attend. “Washburn Tech and Wichita Tech go gangbusters on this,” Genandt said. “We’re playing catch up, but we’ve got, I think, 60 to 70 incoming students coming tomorrow to participate in that, again with social distancing and masks.” He says the event gives MATC an opportunity to combat stigmas associated with technical colleges. “It’s not that you’re too dumb to go to college,” Genandt said. “You’re going to a…
The City of Manhattan plans to install several “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” signs in flood-prone areas throughout the Wildcat Creek watershed. The venture is part of the Resilient Wildcat Creek Floodplain Management plan.
