Free COVID-19 testing was put on pause Tuesday due to weather but resumes today out at CiCo Park. Wellhealth is providing the saliva-based PCR tests through the Riley County Health Department daily except for Sundays and holidays. So far 1,360 patients have been tested this way with 65 positive results recorded. The health department said Tuesday the saliva-based testing will continue through the end of January. Riley County did not report any new COVID data Tuesday, but did confirm 45 new cases Monday with 13 hospitalizations. It’s next report is due out Wednesday. A Milford woman was trapped in her SUV for several hours before rescuers were able to get to her vehicle Monday. According to the Riley County Police Department the veered off Highway 24 northwest of Manhattan. RCPD was first notified of the accident in the 7 o’clock hour and arrived on the scene at 7:31 a.m. Monday. They located 21-year-old Alyssa Johnson inside the vehicle and determined she’d crashed around 11:30 p.m. Sunday near Tuttle Creek Blvd. and North 48th Street. FINNEY COUNTY – The Garden City Police Department requested that the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) issue a statewide Silver Alert for a missing Garden City man. The whereabouts of 93-year-old Donald Hertel are unknown, and the public’s assistance is requested to help locate him. Hertel is a white male, 5 ft. 8 in. tall, weighing 170 lbs. According to one Kansas House of Representatives member, the Kansas Legislature is unlikely to approve Medicaid expansion in 2021. Riley County commissioners approved the final agreement for the Riley County Police Department firing range. Craig Cox, Deputy County Counselor, told the commission Monday that this is the final matter for the firing range. The county negotiated a water line easement through the adjacent properties to bring water to the range. “The two settlement agreements are there,” Cox says. “The Mertz’s settled for $10,000 and Mr. Akin’s settled for $1,250.
