Manhattan High cross country left its mark at Saturday’s Rim Rock Farm Classic, as the girls won the Gold Division team championship. It was the program’s first girls title at the historic meet under head coach Susan Melgares, and the second MHS varsity gold crown of her tenure, following the 2013 boys. Authorities are investigating an aggravated assault reported late Sunday night in Manhattan. Riley County Police say the incident occurred just after 11:30 p.m. near Hayes Drive and McCall Road when a 30-year-old woman told police an unknown man pointed a handgun at her before driving away. Police had no further details. Anyone with information is asked to contact RCPD or Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Click here for more local news.
Staff reports Manhattan High girls’ golf made it three in a row Monday, winning its third straight Centennial League championship with a team score of 315 at Rolling Meadows Golf Course in Junction City. “This group has just worked so hard, they push each other and are just great kids,” head coach Paige McCarthy said. “It’s a pleasure to be around them because they make it fun. A Manhattan man was arrested Sunday afternoon on a Riley County District Court warrant. Riley County Police say 46-year-old Brian Havens was taken into custody around shortly before 3 p.m. in the 300 block of 5th Street. The warrant listed charges of failure to appear, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. Authorities said the arrest stems from original meth possession charges. Havens was given a total bond of $23,000. He has since been released from the Riley County Jail. Click here for more local news.

The Starbucks on Bluemont and Manhattan Avenue permanently closed its doors Saturday.
