The online retailer Amazon plans a one million-square-foot fulfillment center in the Wichita area. The Wichita Eagle reported Friday that the center will be in Park City and will be similar to one in Kansas City, Kansas. Alicia Boler Davis, Amazon’s vice president of global customer fulfillment, said the company is “excited to continue our growth and investment across Kansas so we can better serve our customers throughout the state.” Amazon also recently selected a Wichita site for another distribution center. That 140,000-square-foot delivery station opens later this year. The Park City center will open in 2021.

Rock Creek Public Schools had an encouraging Count Day this year. Rock Creek superintendent, Kevin Logan, tells KMAN the district was excited to receive their final count day numbers and to see that their numbers went up by 22 students. Logan says this puts them near 1200 students total for Pre-K through 12. “We actually anticipated being somewhat flat this year. Data collected by Kansas State University’s Economics Club shows the cost of living for an average K-State student has decreased in the past year. The 2020 Student Price Index (SPI), compiled by the Kansas State University Economics Club, decreased by 1.5 percent from 2019, while the national Consumer Price Index increased mildly at a rate of 1.4 percent from 2019 before seasonal adjustment. Advanced voting in Riley County just began on Wednesday and the votes are already rolling in. “The first day, we had 344 people vote on the machines, three by paper and 92 provisionals,” Rich Vargo, Riley County clerk, said during a meeting involving Riley County and Manhattan commissioners. Vargo says there has been an uptick in provisional ballots being cast in part because people who requested a mail-in ballot changed their mind about how they wanted to vote. A Riley County Emergency Medical Services employee has tested positive for COVID-19. Riley County EMS was notified Wednesday that the part-time employee tested positive and believe the employee was exposed during their last shift. The employee was last on duty and in contact with the public on Oct. 8. While contact tracing for this case is still in progress, the employee is believed to be the only emergency-services worker or member of the public to have been exposed. (AP) — The Republican state treasurer and Democratic Topeka mayor who are running for the open seat in Kansas’ 2nd Congressional District clashed over police reform and racial justice in a debate. Jake LaTurner, the state’s treasurer, was on the attack Wednesday for much of the 30-minute debate, televised by KSNT in Topeka. (AP) — With COVID-19 cases surging in rural areas across the Midwest, a county sheriff in northwestern Kansas found himself struggling to breathe and landed in a hospital room more than an hour from home because there was no space at the local medical center.
