Pottawatomie County voters have chosen their next sheriff. That will be incumbent Shane Jager, who defeated Michael Baker by gaining an unofficial 81 percent of the votes in Tuesday’s primary. Riley County primary-election results Two races were contested on the Riley County Commission Tuesday, both on the Republican side. Moving on in District 3 on the Republican side is John Matta who defeated incumbent Ron Wells receiving 57 percent of the vote. The final tally was Matta with 1,345 to Wells’ 996 votes. Riley County commissioners will not put a half cent sales tax continuation on this year’s ballot, but will before 2023. County Clerk Rich Vargo says a Manhattan City commission agenda states the new citywide half cent sales will replace the county’s, which is not correct. KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Two people, including a police officer, were hurt in an ambush shooting in Kansas City, Kansas, as officers sought to arrest a person in an earlier shooting, police there said. KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Federal inspectors have released an audit revealing Kansas’ foster care homes have not been meeting health and safety requirements, even though state inspectors visited regularly. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ inspector general found that foster care children have been living at risk in group homes with broken windows, mold, exposed electrical wiring, trashed porches and rodent droppings.
