Newman is the seventh K-State player or coach to be selected to college football’s highest honor and the fourth in the last 15 years. Authorities have reported a Fort Riley sergeant found dead at the Outlet Park near Milford Lake in Geary County. Geary County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the park at 9:25 a.m. Friday following a report of a deceased person. They said 26-year-old Sgt. Christopher B. Sanchez had been found by relatives. Sanchez’s family confirmed that he was an Army sergeant at Fort Riley, according to WIBW. Geary County Sheriff’s officials said they do not suspect foul play, and there is no threat to the public. The incident is still under investigation. Click here for more Fort Riley news.
Two people from Manhattan are facing a host of drug-related offenses after a traffic stop Tuesday. Riley County Police say 39-year-old David Labombarbe and 27-year-old Bailey Crumpton, both of Manhattan were arrested around 3:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of Pembrook Place after officers executed a search warrant. Labombarbe faces multiple felony charges, including distribution of fentanyl and methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of cocaine, possession of a hallucinogenic drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to manufacture or distribute controlled substances. A Lansing man was arrested Tuesday evening following a reported aggravated burglary in downtown Manhattan. Riley County Police say officers filed the report around 4:42 p.m. Jan. 13, 2025, in the 1000 block of Poyntz Avenue. A 59-year-old woman reported that a 29-year-old man unknown to her was inside her residence and caused property damage. Officers later arrested Anthony Ellis, 29, of Lansing, at approximately 5:41 p.m. near the intersection of 12th Street and Poyntz Avenue. A Manhattan woman convicted of an array of drug charges in September was sentenced Monday in Riley County District Court. She will serve a sentence of more than 31 years in prison. Catrien Van-Petten, 36, was scheduled for a status hearing on Monday to get rulings for motions she made and to evaluate where the prosecution and defense were at with the case since Van-Petten was granted a new attorney to represent her in the remainder of the case. Families can go “fore” the win at a new temporary exhibit in the Flint Hills Discovery Center. “Grassland Mini-Golf,” which opened over the weekend, invites guests to discover the rich ecology of the tallgrass prairie while playing nine holes of putt-putt golf. Each hole was designed by Discovery Center staff to introduce guests to a part of the endangered Flint Hills ecosystem and educate them about the importance of preserving the prairie. “What better way to introduce people to the Flint Hills ecosystem than with a fun-filled 9-hole minigolf course,” Discovery Center director Stephen Bridenstine said in a written statement.…
