A task force comprised of state, livestock industry and university officials is starting the effort with a survey. WICHITA, Kan. — Someone who posted videos on TikTok showing a golf cart running over a sign on a Wichita golf course and a person chasing geese from a golf cart has been banned from all of the city’s park facilities for a year. Before the ban was handed down on Thursday, the city had asked on Twitter for help identifying the culprit. The T. Russel Rietz Animal Shelter will have kittens available for a discounted adoption fee of $75 starting Wednesday. The adoption event will go from Wednesday, May 26 to Wednesday, June 2 and will feature kittens which animal control officer Brandon Sokol says are fully vetted. “They’re not old enough for a rabies vaccine but they are old enough for their other vaccines and to be treated for internal and external parasites like fleas and ticks,” Sokol said. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Manhattan man Friday on charges of sexual exploitation of a child under the age of 18. Zachariah Bayless, 31, of rural Manhattan, Pottawatomie County, turned himself into the Pottawatomie County Jail in Westmoreland. Officials suspect the crimes occurred between December 2020 and May 2021. Bond has been set at $25,000. The investigation is ongoing.
Fire investigators have determined the fire that heavily damaged a fast-food restaurant in late March started when cooking oil ignited on soiled towels in a storage area. The March 28th fire at the Taco John’s on Leavenworth Street near Tuttle Creek Boulevard was ruled accidental after video evidence showed the blaze starting. Manahttan Fire investigators also declared a fire in apartments in at 1200 Yuma Street as accidental. A multi-plug outlet was overloaded sparking the fire this past Saturday night.

WICHITA, Kan. — A southeastern Kansas woman has been sentenced to three years’ probation and ordered to repay nearly $87,000 she fraudulently collected in Social Security benefits for children who did not live with her. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Kansas says Teresa Grant, of Arkansas City, was sentenced earlier this month after she pleaded guilty to one count of unauthorized acquisition of Social Security Administration benefits. In exchange for her plea, federal prosecutors dropped two other counts. Grant admitted to fraudulently claiming Social Security survivor’s benefits for her three minor children after the death of her husband in 2016.…
