A draft reopening plan focused on teaching and learning methods was shared Wednesday with the Manhattan/Ogden School Board. Superintendent Dr. Marvin Wade says even with the governor’s announcement to delay the start of the school year, the district’s plan is still fine. Guidance was received from the state department of education last week.  The guidance stresses learning, but also focus on the operations side.  Wade says they feel pretty good, but need to be held accountable and be willing to make changes. Local health officials say they are in regular contact with area schools, saying the feasibility of returning to in-person instruction is dependent on the communities actions in the coming months. During a Facebook live update, Riley County Health Department Director Julie Gibbs reported 7 new positive COVID-19 tests and 4 recoveries — a net increase of 3 cases — since Tuesday, July 14th. Looking to shore up future finances, Manhattan is looking at replacing the existing economic development sales tax with one that extends city-wide. City Commissioners at their Tuesday work session discussed 2021 budget requests from the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce and affiliated organizations like the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
