Police say an unknown suspect used a debit card to make fraudulent purchases, racking up over $12,000 in charges. The RCPD responded to 19 incidents over the weekend of June 7 and 8, including a mix of accidents, property crimes, and drug-related activity. One injury accident was reported in the 1800 block of College Avenue, while two other non-injury crashes occurred at N. 10th and Bluemont and at Sherman Road and Tuttle Creek Boulevard near Leonardville. Officers also investigated a burglary, several reports of larceny, and a criminal threat incident near S. Manhattan Avenue and Fort Riley Boulevard. A man was arrested late Wednesday evening after following his ex-wife in a car from the St. George area to the Wabaunsee County Courthouse. 37-year-old Jaron Taitano was taken into custody but was released on Thursday. The incident leading to his arrest began shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday when his ex-wife reported the car she was driving was being followed by Taitano. Wabaunsee County officers were alerted to the situation when the woman called 911 while driving south on K-99 from Pottawatomie County into Wabaunsee County. An officer with the Riley County Police Department is on administrative leave after he was arrested Wednesday on charges of unlawful computer acts. Stephen Benjamin Clark, 42, of Manhattan, was arrested shortly before 5 p.m. at 1024 Lobdell Drive and issued a $4,000 bond. He was no longer confined as of Thursday’s arrest report. His arrest follows an RCPD investigation into a domestic related incident. He was placed on administrative leave on Monday after a report was filed, listing a 36-year-old woman as the victim. RCPD officials have refused to release any additional information about the arrest.
