Riley County Police logged more than two dozen incidents and six arrests between Friday and early Saturday, according to department reports. Among the calls, officers responded to two injury crashes Friday evening — one at Westwood Road and Fort Riley Boulevard and another in the 200 block of Fort Riley Boulevard. Police also investigated drug violations at the Evergreen Apartments on Garden Way and on Casement Road, along with forgery at Mid America Piano, larcenies at Hy-Vee and other locations, and several domestic-related calls. By Emma Loura Be Able, a Manhattan nonprofit, raised about $105,000 with its Upside Down Auction Thursday night, surpassing its goal of $90,000. The Utopia Room of St. Thomas More’s parish was full of volunteers, Be Able neighbors and donors. This was the auction’s second year. “It’s a reverse-style auction,” said Scott Voos, the executive director of Be Able. “In most non-profit fundraising methods, people go there with the auction opportunity. City officials plan to locate utilities on Anderson Avenue this weekend, resulting in an overnight closure Sunday night to through traffic. Public works will close the roadway from Connecticut Avenue to College Heights Road/Timberlane Drive from 7 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday. If needed, a second overnight closure will take place at 7 p.m. Monday and continue until 6 a.m. Tuesday. Riley County Police are alerting residents to a phone scam in which callers falsely claim to be Sergeant Dunn of the department. Police said several citizens recently reported receiving calls telling them they needed to turn themselves in to law enforcement over serious legal matters. Authorities emphasized that RCPD will never request payment over the phone. Residents are urged to verify any suspicious calls through trusted sources before sharing personal information. Riley County Police are investigating a theft reported Thursday morning at Home Depot in Manhattan. Officers filed the report Sept. 25 around 10:17 a.m. in the 600 block of Seth Child Road. Police said a known 46-year-old woman was accused of stealing power tools from the store. The estimated loss was valued at $3,611.55. Officers filed the report Sept. 25 around 6:17 p.m. in the 200 block of 5th Street. Police said a 42-year-old woman reported that her daughter’s cello had been damaged by an unknown suspect. A Manhattan woman was arrested late Thursday on a Clay County District Court warrant, according to the Riley County Police Department. Amanda Harding, 43, of Manhattan, was taken into custody Sept. 25 around 10:19 p.m. in the 1400 block of Flint Hills Place. The warrant listed charges of criminal threat, criminal false communication and disorderly conduct. A Manhattan man was arrested early Friday morning on charges of aggravated domestic battery and criminal damage to property, according to the Riley County Police Department. Officers filed a report Sept. 26 around 3:32 a.m. after a 29-year-old woman was listed as the victim and a 26-year-old man was identified as the suspect. William Avila, 26, of Manhattan, was taken into custody about an hour later at 4:34 a.m. on the listed charges. He was booked into the Riley County Jail and issued no bond.
