WAKEENEY, Kan. — Authorities say a teen has died in a rollover crash in northwestern Kansas. Television station KAKE reports the crash happened Saturday near WaKeeney in Trego County. Authorities say 19-year-old Courtney Windholz, of Bucklin, was driving a sport utility vehicle southbound when she lost control and hit a dirt embankment, causing the SUV to roll. Officials say Windholz died when she was thrown from the vehicle. She was the only person in the vehicle.

Release from the Office of the Governor. TOPEKA – Governor Laura Kelly today issued a new executive order as part of her administration’s comprehensive response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Executive Order #20-45 will extend temporary relief for motor carriers from certain rules and regulations until rescinded, until July 12, 2020, or until the statewide State of Disaster Emergency expires, whichever is earlier. For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic led to its closure, the Sunset Zoo will open to the public. Starting today, the zoo will be open from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and then 1 to 3 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It will close from 12 to 1 p.m. on those days and also on Wednesdays and Thursdays for cleaning and maintenance. The Riley County Fair is still on for this year, but with some major changes. Speaking to the Riley County commission, Extension Director Gary Fike says they have spoken with the health department on what to do.  The Kaw Valley Rodeo will not be held this year and the carnival is still uncertain. Riley County commissioners are looking into a 5% decrease for their salaries. During a previous meeting, Commissioner Ron Wells brought up the idea to help save money for the budget.  Both Commissioners Marvin Rodriguez and John Ford agreed with the idea. KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Police say a 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of another man last week in Kansas City, Kansas. Police say Tika Ram Sarki, of Kansas City, Kansas, is charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault in the June 4 shooting death of 26-year-old Narbu Tamang. Police were called to the scene of the shooting around 8 p.m. and found Tamang with gunshot injuries. He died at the scene. Police have not detailed what events led to the shooting.

TOPEKA, Kan. — Health officials in Kansas have issued public health advisories for several lakes and ponds across the state where toxic algae has been found. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment issued the advisories this week for Rock Garden Pond in Shawnee County and Cheney Lake, which is in Reno, Kingman and Sedgwick counties. Others under watch include Kanopolis Reservoir in Ellsworth County, Gathering Pond at Milford Reservoir in Geary County, Lake Perry in Jefferson County and Marion County Lake.
