The high water advisory in place in areas downstream from Tuttle Creek Lake — including the Berry Streets and Dix Addition in Northview — has been lifted, but residents are advised to stay aware of the situation. Lake elevation has steadily declined since the end of May, recorded at a level of 1129.48 feet above sea level as of 4:30 p.m. Monday, June 10th. Fire hydrants around the Manhattan community will be painted and flushed out starting this week, according to a Monday release. The Manhattan Fire Department does this annually. The purpose of flowing is to clear out the water lines and ensure the hydrants are functioning as they should. Residents are advised not to drive or ride bikes through the water flows and that children should not play in them either. Hal Lucas, 52, of Manhattan was arrested while in the 6900 block of Fort Riley Boulevard in Ogden on June 8, 2019, at approximately 1:26 AM. Lucas was arrested on offenses of flee or attempt to elude, interference with LEO, possession of paraphernalia, driving while suspended, and possession of methamphetamine. Residents in the area of the 1500 block of Tuttle Creek Boulevard may hear some explosions Wednesday, June 12. The Riley County Police Department will be conducting training exercises that involve controlled explosions. Law enforcement personnel will be practicing dynamic entries and as a result, portions of Holiday Drive and Meadows Lane will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. “The ability to train officers on alternative entry methods in a real-world situation, allows us to be better prepared to respond to certain emergency situations,” Sgt. A long-time Manhattan-based lawyer-turned-judge has been appointed to be the next chief judge of the judicial district serving Riley and Clay Counties. Grant Bannister was appointed to head the 21st Judicial District, succeeding the retiring Judge Meryl Wilson. Bannister steps in June 16, the date of Wilson’s effective retirement date. Bannister will hold the position at least through the end of 2019. A new interim dean has been named at The Carl. R. Ice College of Engineering at K-State. Senior Associate Dean Gary Clark has been appointed as of today according to a press release from K-State. Clark will replace Darren Dawson, who accepted the position of president of the University of Alabama in Huntsville. This is Clark’s second time serving as interim dean of the college. He served in the position during the 2013 and 2014 academic year. Clark will start in the new position on June 16th.

The College of Veterinary Medicine at K-State has a new dean. Bonnie Rush has been selected for the position according to a press release from the university. Rush has been serving as interim dean of the college since 2017, and was appointed by Provost and Executive Vice President Charles Taber. Rush’s area of clinical expertise is equine respiratory disease. She will be charged with leading the college on a variety of fronts including student, faculty and program development, teaching, research and program accreditation .
