As sports continue to wait on the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, KMAN continues to air classic games from both the Kansas State Wildcats and Kansas City Royals. Three games will be featured this weekend, with the first kicking off at 2:00 on Saturday with K-State and Baylor from 2011. An Alternate Care Site location for the Riley County health department to treat potential coronavirus patients has been announced. County Counselor Clancy Holeman informed the Riley County Commission Thursday that the Holiday Inn Express at Blue Earth Plaza has been selected as the chosen care site. The hotel has been closed since last month. It came available after plans fell through securing the Four Points by Sheraton location on Fort Riley Blvd. The ACS is a location where patients who do not require hospitalization could continue their recovery. Update 5 p.m. Friday Riley County health and safety officials provided no additional updates on the new positive COVID-19 tests at their daily online press conference Friday, but say the community could see a large jump in pending test numbers as soon as Saturday. Officials reported 113 pending tests earlier Friday due to increased availability of testing kits, but officially released a pending test count of 24. TOPEKA, Kan. — Gov. Laura Kelly says her goal is to start reopening the Kansas economy on May 3 but she may not be able to do it because the state is “nowhere near” having the supplies needed for adequate coronavirus testing. Kelly’s comments Thursday came after hundreds of people protested around the Statehouse against a stay-at-home order from the governor set to expire May 3. A new candidate for the District 2 seat for the Riley County commission has filed this week. Retired Brigadier General Philip Mattox filed to run for the seat currently held by Commissioner Marvin Rodriguez, who is running for re-election. He will also be running against Riley City Council Member Greg McKinley.
