Original: A 23-year-old suspect has been arrested by Kansas State University Police in connection with the shooting incident near the Kansas State University Foundation building in the beginning of May. Monday’s In Focus featured an update from Riley County Emergency Director Pat Collins on the flood risk.  Collins talked about how emergency operations are winding down for the time being, and what officials doing now to prepare for future flooding potential. Manhattan City Manager Ron Fehr and Assistant Fire Chief Brad Claussen continued the flood conversation with a brief recap of past efforts and a look to the future regarding the levee system around downtown. Fehr and Claussen also discussed agenda items for the upcoming city commission meeting this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.

For the City of Manhattan, the only incumbent seeking re-election is Commissioner and former Mayor Linda Morse. Current Mayor Mike Dodson and Commissioner Jerred McKee are not seeking re-election. TOPEKA — A newspaper report says a former Kansas commerce secretary participated in transferring state data to a private company with ties to him while in office. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that it used state documents and interviews to link ex-Secretary Antonio Soave to the transfer of state files containing contact, personnel and financial data on more than 10,000 businesses. The newspaper said data went from Soave’s special assistant at the Department of Commerce to an employee of the Capistrano Global Advisory Services business consulting firm in Overland Park. TOPEKA — Fifteen more Kansas counties have been added to the list of counties eligible for emergency disaster assistance. Gov. Laura Kelly announced Saturday that 33 of the state’s 105 counties are covered by the federal declaration in response to damage from recent tornadoes. The designation makes the counties eligible for federal support and resources in addition to state and local help to rebuild from the storm damage. Counties added to federal list include Allen, Doniphan, Dickinson, Douglas, Geary, Jefferson, Leavenworth, Linn, Lyon, Marshall, Morris, Pottawatomie, Riley, Salina and Wabaunsee. Long time Manhattan car dealer, Dick Edwards has died. His family confirmed KMAN today of Edwards’ passing on Sunday. According to the Dick Edwards Auto website, he started selling cars & trucks in 1963, and moved from Augusta, Kansas, to Manhattan in 1981 to open up Dick Edwards Ford.  He became known for his catch-phrase “Dick Edwards will bend over backwards for you.” In 1988 he opened up his Junction City location on Grant Avenue, then in 2013, Edwards built a new facility at the corner of I-70 & Hwy 77 in Junction City.
