The Kansas Department of Health and Environment recorded 116 new COVID-19 cases for Riley County between July 30 and August 5. The latest report, out Wednesday, keeps Riley County in the HIGH incidence category with the current incidence rate of 156.3 per 100,000 people. This total does not include any at-home test results. Ascension Via Christi is caring for two COVID-19 positive individuals, with no patients currently in the ICU. One additional COVID-19 related death was also reported this week. An 80 year-old male tested positive July 26 and died August 5.

Multiple agencies assisted the Junction City Police Department in a 3-day special operation that was aimed at major criminals. The operation was executed in Wabaunsee County and multiple arrests were made. In addition to those arrests, over 120 pounds of Methamphetamine with an estimated street value of  $4,400,000 million were seized. Dickinson County authorities located a 17-year-old Tuesday accused of threatening individuals at the Chapman pool and recreational complex Monday. The teenager, identified as Jacob Schoby, was taken into custody without incident, according to the Sheriff’s Office. An investigation was opened between the office and the Chapman Police Department after he allegedly made severe threats to harm and kill individuals. An investigation revealed Schoby showed a small pistol in at least one of the videos posted on his Snapchat. A 19 year old is now in custody following a domestic related dispute. The Riley County Police Department filed a report for criminal damage to property involving a domestic dispute in Manhattan on Monday, around 10 pm. A 20 year old female is listed as the victim when it was reported that 19 year old Isaac Mumaw damaged the windshield and rear passenger window of her car. The loss is estimated at $600. Mumaw is charged with criminal damage to property; without consent, and was confined as of Tuesday’s report on a bond of $2,000.

Damage caused on McCain Lane now confirmed to be caused by a tornado from Saturday’s storms, says a new report from the National Weather Service. A brief low end EF-2 tornado was on the ground around McCain Lane near the Country Club. In addition to the widespread wind damage across Manhattan Warning Coordination Meteorologist Chad Omitt spoke with KMAN about the updated report, and where that tornado touched down.
