Average gas prices in Kansas continue to fall, Manhattan sees 2 cent per gallon decrease

Average gasoline prices continue to fall, continuing a steady trend taking place in the state over the past three months.
Kansas’s average gas price state-wide is the ninth cheapest in America — 31 cents lower than the national average — at $1.93 per gallon of fuel. That’s 15 percent lower than the rate last January, according to AAA.
“Despite the recent busy holiday travel period, gasoline demand has remained low, while supply is still plentiful in the market,” said AAA Kansas spokesman Shawn Steward. “The result is great news for motorists, who get to enjoy the cheap prices at the pumps.”
AAA typically highlights the prices of 10 different cities in Kansas in their periodical price report. Seven of those cities had average prices under $2 per gallon and all of those cities except Salina saw gas prices decrease in the past week.
Manhattan, still seeing higher average prices relative to other cities, was one of those cities above the $2 per gallon threshold. The city saw a decrease of 2 cents per gallon off its average cost per gallon of gas since last week. Currently at an average of $2.09 per gallon — down from $2.11 last week — is down 23 cents from the average price of a gallon in Manhattan last January.
The largest price drops occurred in Garden City, which saw a decrease of 8 cents per gallon, Hays, which saw a decrease of 6 cents per gallon, and Emporia, which saw a decrease of 5 cents per gallon. The highest price average recorded in Kansas was in Elkhart in Morton County, with an average price of $2.50 per gallon, and the lowest average was recorded in Galena in Cherokee County, with an average price of $1.72 per gallon.
