0
By KMAN Staff on June 17, 2020 Local News, Manhattan

The Flint Hills Discovery Center will open to the public Tuesday for the first time since closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The FHDC will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and then on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.. They will close on Mondays for cleaning and maintenance.

Before opening to the public on June 23, the FHDC will hold two members-only days to show appreciation for their support.

These member-exclusive days will take place on this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.. Non-members can sign up on these days.

While the first-floor exhibits and Prairie Garden Terrace and Trail will remain open to everyone, other areas have gathering restrictions in place.

The Horizon Ranch immersive Theater will have a limit of 30 people per showing and the second floor exhibits, including the Praire Playscape and American Adventure traveling exhibit, will be limited to 50 guests.

The FHDC will have an overall limit of 50-percent capacity.

Extra safety precautions will also be in place throughout the building, including hand-sanitizing stations, signs encouraging social distancing, additional equipment and surface-sanitizing measures and limited access to toys in the Prairie Playscape.

Children in first through sixth grade will also have opportunities this summer to take part in the FHDC’s Adventure camps.

Adventure-Camp registration begins June 18 at 8 a.m..
