The Flint Hills Wellness Coalition is asking Manhattan and Riley County residents to respond to an online survey.
The survey is to share the community’s perceptions about three behaviors that reduce risk for serious health conditions; physical activity, healthy eating, and commercial tobacco control. Pathways to a Healthy Kansas Co-Coordinator Debbie Nuss says the survey is part of a grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield.
“One of the first things that we are required to do is a survey of the community to ask community members to share their perceptions about how well the community already addresses those issues.”
Nuss says the survey only takes around five minutes to complete. The questions range from whether or not this is a healthy community, to if there are enough physical activity opportunities in the community . Answers will range from strongly agree to strongly disagree. Nuss added that over the next few weeks, they are aiming to get more responses from the community that matches the community’s demographics. The responses from this survey will be compared to the coalition’s 2020 Needs Assessment survey.
“That’s why this kind of assessments and surveys are important because it does let you know whether or not things are changing in the community either in a positive way or negative way then you can make recommendations to elected officials about policy matters cases to funding organizations.”
Nuss says the pandemic could have an affect on the community’s perception of health.
