    Holeman: Early interest in potential sale of county buildings

    Monday, Riley County commissioners approved the publishing of intent of sale notices for four county buildings.

    Thursday, county counselor Clancy Holeman told the commission there’s already some interest.

    “I have had some initial contact from potential bidders, because of the public discussion of this — which we anticipated,” Holeman said.

    Commissioners agreed to publish two notices of intent to sell property Monday, including one for the Courthouse Plaza East building — where the commission meets — at 115 N. Fourth St. in Manhattan, and another for a packaged sale of the Emergency Medical Services building, the Pawnee Mental Health building and the Genealogical Society building. Those properties all reside on the 2000 block of Claflin Road in Manhattan.

    “Even before we publish, those who express an interest, there’s no reason not to give them final versions of the notices of intent, so if they are interested in preceding, they can go ahead and begin crafting some sort of proposal,” Holeman said.

    With commissioner Robert Boyd — who lost his primary race to Marvin Rodriguez Tuesday — away Thursday on a previously planned vacation, Holeman suggested the commission wait to hear from potential bidders until Boyd returns.

    In other items, commissioners opened bids for the Green-Randolph Road bridge replacement project.

    The engineer’s estimates for the project is $399,795 for the base bid. There were also alternates to the bid, with the first alternate including a shoo-fly detour and the second alternate bid including a road closure.

    For the first alternate bid, the engineer’s estimate is $558,025.10 and $313,219.20 for the second alternate.

    Reece Construction of Scandia submitted a base bid of $342,327.10, a first alternate of $385,797.59 and a second alternate of $231,483.42.

    Ebert Construction of Wamego submitted a base bid of $395,032.58, a first alternate of $419,457.03 and a second alternate of $252,583.97.

    King Construction of Hesston submitted a base bid of $336,665.50, a first alternate of $372,577.59 and a second alternate of $211,223.42.

    Finally, L&M Contractors of Great Bend submitted a base bid of $329,110.50, a first alternate of $439,350.35 and a second alternate of $264,649.50.

    Commissioners approved sending the bids to staff for review.
