Riley County commissioners have settled on Leonardville as the future location for a new ambulance station.
EMS Director David Adams presented options to the commission Thursday, for both Leonardville and Randolph. He says the first option, in Randolph would’ve covered the city, Leonardville, and University Park.
Both options would keep the county shop’s station open, which would have Sherman Road as its most northern border.
Option two in Leonardville would cover the city, Randolph and Riley. With this option, the county shop station boundary would reach Sunset Lane.
Commission Chair Greg McKinley says this location does the most good for the most people.
Riley County commissioners also approved the purchase of equipment for north county ambulance operations.
The equipment is included for the temporary paramedics up in Leonardville and the new ambulance station. Adams says there are four main purchases needed for the paramedics, which will be transferred to the new station when it is built.
Commissioners felt like Leonardville would have the greatest impact. It’s not clear yet where in Leonardville the new station will be constructed. The total estimated cost for the four items is over 365 thousand dollars. These estimates come from similar prices associated with current equipment. American Rescue Plan Act funds will be used to pay for equipment and the station.
