Manhattan is one of the most inclusive cities to LGBTQ folks in Kansas, according to the Human Rights Campaign.
The HRC annually publishes a municipal equality index (MEI) that rates more than 500 cities on a variety of criteria ranging from non-discrimination protections, policies and services. Manhattan scored 83 out of 100 points, trailing only Overland Park which scored 86 points.
“We work hard to make Manhattan a welcoming community that is fair to all residents and visitors,” Manhattan City Commissioner Linda Morse said in a release. “We continue to advocate for equality in our policies and in our actions. Improving the MEI score is one of the ways we are able to measure progress.”
KMAN has reached out to Little Apple Pride and K-State SAGA for further comment.
