Manhattan Public Library cancels annual book sale

The coronavirus pandemic has, yet again, thrown a wrench into the plans of an annual event in Manhattan.

Maddy Ogle, Manhattan Public Library Development and Public Relations Coordinator, says the library has made the decision to cancel the annual book sale this year. Ogle tells KMAN that the book sale has been an important part of the library, and the decision to cancel it was tough.

“This is an annual event that would raise money that would go back in to fund library programs and purchases,” Ogle says. “So, like new books, book giveaways, special events, and especially the summer reading program.”

Ogle adds that over the last couple years the library has exceeded over $10,000 in sales at the book sale. Ogle says that with the cancellation of the event, the library wants to offer something special, and they are doing just that with the 2022 Book Bond.

“It’s just our way of saying thank you and to, basically , welcome them in when it comes time for that 2022 book sale,” she adds. “So this Book Bond coupon, they’ll receive when they purchase or renew their membership this year, but it’s going to be good for 20% off of their entire purchase at that 2022 book sale.”

Ogle says a membership to the library, which currently includes the 2022 Book Bond coupon costs just $10. If you are interested in becoming a member you can visit mhklibrary.org or call the Manhattan Public Library at 785-776-4741.
