A Milford woman was trapped in her SUV for several hours before rescuers were able to get to her vehicle Monday.

According to the Riley County Police Department the veered off Highway 24 northwest of Manhattan. RCPD was first notified of the accident in the 7 o’clock hour and arrived on the scene at 7:31 a.m. Monday.

They located 21-year-old Alyssa Johnson inside the vehicle and determined she’d crashed around 11:30 p.m. Sunday near Tuttle Creek Blvd. and North 48th Street. An investigation revealed Johnson failed to negotiate a curve, flipped the vehicle and ended up in a ditch. She was trapped in the vehicle for up to eight hours.

Police were able to air lift Johnson to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka with critical injuries.
