An Ohio teen who is accused of creating a fake hostage situation at Lee Elementary School in Manhattan and planning an attack on an Ohio high school has been denied an emergency bail hearing.
Allen Kenna, 18, on April 9 had requested an emergency bail hearing through video conferencing and a temporary release from the northeast Ohio correctional facility in which he is being held due to concerns over contracting the coronavirus.
The opposition argued against this motion, stating the defense had failed to provide evidence showing Kenna is not a danger to the community, the correctional facility he is at doesn’t have any known positive cases of the coronavirus and that releasing him would put probation and other officers at risk.
A federal judge sided with the opposition, stating that Kenna did not present a compelling reason for temporary release or meet the requirements to justify a reopening of the detention hearing.
The incident involving Lee Elementary School occurred last November when Kenna called the Riley County Police Department claiming he was in the school with a hostage at gunpoint and threatening to harm anyone who entered.
Police officers later entered the school and found no one inside.
