The only witness connecting Anthony Nichol’s to the murder of John Burroughs, took the stand in Riley County Court Thursday morning.
51-year-old Christina Love testified that Nichols showed up to her Manhattan home on the day of the murder, asking her to ride with him to Burrough’s house. Love believed the two were going to sell crack cocaine.
Upon arriving at the residence in the Red Bud estates, Love noted that Nichols parked his car around the corner and the pair walked between trailers to Burrough’s residence where Nichols had Love announce that she was at the door, before having her return to the car.
Love noted that she heard a gun shot coming from the trailer about 3 or 4 minutes later and Nichols returned to the car asking if she had heard the shot, telling her “don’t worry about it” and “don’t tell anyone.”
Love returned to her home where she said she told her husband, daughter, and son James (who goes by Chris) what had happened.
Chris convinced her that the pair should return to the trailer to see if the man was living, although the defense pointed out that Love had originally told detectives that they had returned because her son “wanted to make sure the man was dead.”
Once the arrived, Love says that they found Burroughs on the toilet gasping for air, blood covered with his head against the wall. She then noticed stabbing motions as her son stabbed the man.
The two then disposed of the weapon off of a bridge, before returning home.
Love then traveled with a friend to Junction City to purchase crack, but the dealer they visited was waiting to get the drug from Anthony Nixon, who went by the name of “Banks.” It was later in the evening when the two found out that Banks had been shot and killed.
Love received a plea deal in 2014, after being charged with 2 counts of obstruction and 2 counts of hindering the apprehension of a subject.
The trial will continue through the afternoon and KMAN will bring you the latest from inside the courtroom.
