Pottawatomie Health Director Lisa Kenworthy reported to the Pottawatomie County Commission Monday that they are applying for a grant through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
The grant is for an opioid overdose crises response cooperative agreement and is a one time grant that runs from December to August 31st.

Kenworthy says although Pottawatomie county is not on the high end of opioid usage or overdose, this grant is to be preventative and intended to help preparedness efforts at the county level. She mentioned at the meeting that of five different domains, they have to fill three of them to receive the grant.

Kenworhty explains that DATA is a program with the goal that each county has a trained physician that can handle these crises . Another stipulation for the grant is to show that the health department is stable within the agencies.
A rocky topic during Monday’s meeting this week was the new Havensville fire station location. Fire Supervisor Jared Barnes was at the meeting to deliver the news that process to get the site to “a buildable lot,” cost more than anticipated.

The commissioners expressed frustration with the differences in the game plan for the fire station. At the meeting they asked Barnes to return with information from the engineers to get a better sense of the the quantities broken down.
