The Riley County Police Department has announced updates to an existing policy regarding educational requirements for promotions.
Director Dennis Butler told Law Board members Monday that they are adapting an update on educational requirements for lieutenants looking to be promoted to captain.
Butler says the requirements will not affect current captains and won’t harm their positions.
Law Board Chair Linda Morse says this policy update was something the Law Board has been looking forward to.
In other business Monday, the Law Board recognized the former chair of the Community Advisory Board Tim Sigle with a plaque. Director Butler shared some words.
Sigle served on the Community Advisory Board from 2017-2021 and also served as Vice Chairmen from 2019-2021.
Sigle plans to step down from his position at the end of this year.
The Law Board also extended Butler’s contract an extra month from the Dec. 31 expiration date. Butler is retiring, but has agreed to stay on an extra month to ease the transition. The Law Board is actively pursuing a new director and may fill the position on an interim basis until a permanent director is hired.
Butler’s last day with RCPD is Jan. 31.
