As for last week’s blizzard, Ascher says 40 calls were taken related to weather, 30 of which were for motorist assist, nine for malfunctioning traffic devices in Manhattan and five for disabled vehicles and two calls for traffic hazards. Ascher says RCPD also assisted Geary County and the Kansas Highway Patrol on Interstate 70 to help stuck motorists.

Ascher says the department went into emergency reporting for most of the day on Nov. 25, which means they would only report to vehicle accidents that resulted in injuries, were hit and runs, or involved a driver under the influence.
