Riley County is reporting nine new positive cases of COVID since Monday.

In addition, 47 recoveries have also been reported, bringing the active case count to 96 as of Wednesday’s report. The percent positive rate for the week of Feb. 14 dropped to 3 percent according to the health department from 62 positives out of more than 2,000 tests performed. It’s the fourth consecutive week the percent positive rate has been below 5 percent.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Ascension Via Christi was caring for three positive patients, including one in the Intensive Care Unit.

The health department says it will likely move into Phase 3 of its vaccination plan next week, administering shots to anyone 18 to 64 with severe health conditions.

On Wednesday, Riley County health officials reported seeing a lower than expected turnout of those 65 and older who were invited to receive vaccines.

As a result, the county opened up the clinic to any Riley County resident 65 and older who needed the vaccine. If you meet the criteria, you’re encouraged to contact the Riley County Health Department for more information at 785-776-4779 or online at rileycountyks.gov. To date, nearly 8,000 Riley County residents have received at least their first dose of the Moderna COVID vaccine.
