Riley County is reporting 23 new positive COVID-19 cases and 29 recoveries since Friday.
This brings the total number of active cases in Riley County to 132 and recoveries to 1,827.
People in the 18 to 24-year-old age range represent 52 percent of the new cases and about 77 percent of the total number of cases in Riley County.
Ascension Via Christi Hospital is currently caring for three positive patients.
“The guidelines in Local Health Order No. 18 are working,” Julie Gibbs, Riley County health officer, said in a release. “I am thankful that we are entering the fall months with a downward trend for positive cases in Riley County. As winter approaches, with holiday travel and the typical flu season, we could see a spike in cases. We are preparing for that. I am hopeful that schools can remain open and that the current guidelines will continue to keep the community safe.”
RCHD, KDHE and the Kansas National Guard will host two free testing sites this week. Both will be at City Park in Manhattan with the first taking place on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. and the second on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m..
Those interested in getting tested are asked to enter on Fremont St. near the Wefald Pavilion.
RCPD has received complaints about local businesses not following mask guidelines. It says it has gained voluntary compliance from these places in recent weeks without having to issue new citations.
Pottawatomie County is reporting 13 new active cases and 11 recoveries. This brings the total number of active cases in Pottawatomie County to 26 and recoveries to 299.
