Authorities say a train has struck and injured a person on a bridge just east of Manhattan.
The Manhattan Mercury reports the unidentified man was sleeping on a railroad bridge over the Big Blue River at 7:06 a.m. Wednesday morning when he heard the train whistle and woke up, Union Pacific Railroad media director Jeffrey DeGraff said. Union Pacific officials conducted the investigation.
The man, in his mid-30s, got up to move then the train hit him. DeGraff said the man received minor injuries, including lacerations to his arm and shoulder. Pottawatomie County Undersheriff Shane Jager said the man was receiving treatment at a local hospital.
DeGraff said the man did not have a home in the area and was possibly intoxicated when Union Pacific officials questioned him.
