One of the questions was related to improving school safety in Kansas. 66th District Representative Sydney Carlin had some praise for the district’s active shooter drill held over the summer.

Carlin says the district should be proud for evolving their drills with the new dangers schools are facing. 67th District Representative Tom Phillips shared his thoughts on the issue.

Phillips also commended the board on their school safety efforts in the bond. State Senator Tom Hawk says lawmakers also need to look at some other factors.

The board also asked the legislators on the possibility of rewriting the funding formula and the state economy. Phillips was quick to respond.

Phillips says he is open to ideas. Hawk told board members that the current formula is working.

Carlin says the state legislature can meet the needs of schools this year and next year, but is unsure about the future beyond that.
