Kansas State University President Richard Linton has been diagnosed with throat and tongue cancer.
Dr. Linton shared news of his diagnosis in a Tuesday letter to the university community. He says the cancer is treatable and curable, but will require daily treatments with the KU Cancer Center in Kansas City for the next few months. Linton says he will continue to work remotely while he undergoes treatment.
Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff Marshall Stewart has been appointed to represent Linton at university events, meetings and collaborations on decision making. Linton says the two are “completely aligned in how they will lead the university” and will continue regular communication.
Linton has been university president since February 2022 and is leading the Next-Gen K-State Strategic Plan, which is expected to launch later this fall.
A public gathering for prayer and support of Dr. Linton is scheduled at 5 p.m. Tuesday on the Anderson Hall lawn.
