Riley County Police will soon be stepping up traffic safety efforts in area school zones.
Beginning on February 29th and ending March 13th, officers will join Law Enforcement agencies across Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma in a traffic safety operation, working to reduce teen driver related fatalities and collisions.
To try and alter this trend, law enforcement across these states will be increasing vigilance when patrolling area schools zones – taking appropriate action with drivers and passengers who refuse to obey traffic laws.
RCPD officers will be focused on deterring speeding, texting and driving, and failure to buckle up.
13 teens died as the result of car accidents in 2015, with 40% failing to wear their seat-belt.
