The City of Manhattan will host a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at City Hall to discuss the proposed components of the 2016 Community Development Block Grant Annual Action Plan.
Last fall, the City asked for project ideas from the community at-large. Those have been evaluated, combined and categorized to fall within the parameters of CDBG funding guidelines. The draft plan includes more than $200,000 for electrical upgrades at the Douglass Community Center and for kitchen modifications at the Riley County Seniors’ Service Center. Another $77,000 is proposed for a bike and pedestrian connection to the Old Blue River/Linear Trail route in east Manhattan. The proposed plan also includes $145,000 for the City’s housing rehabilitation program and more than $98,000 for public service agencies throughout the community. The draft also includes $32,000 in funds for planning ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) construction costs at the Community House and an intent to apply for a Section 108 Loan Guarantee from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Manhattan residents are encouraged to attend the meeting to learn more about how CDBG funds benefit low- and moderate-income individuals and the agencies that serve those individuals in Manhattan.
