In less than a month USD 383 will enter the 2018 fiscal year, and it will have $50,000 left over from the year before.
At Wednesday night’s meeting, board members were basking in the afterglow of legislative victories in Topeka this week. On Monday, the legislature passed S.B. 19, and director of business Lew Faust referred to the new formula as a “good start.”
The $50,000 saved from overtime pay will compliment the projected revenue additions as a result of S.B. 19. The district will be the beneficiary of $3,091,941 in general and supplemental fund authority. The district will also collect $784,755 in a 2% Cost of Living Authority.
Faust said the new bill was largely bipartisan, which means a private school tax credit was slipped into the law in order to add more votes. Governor Brownback will have to sign the bill before it can be sent to the state supreme court for approval.
In other business, the board approved a new learning curriculum for early education called Connect4Learning, approved the purchase of the Kaspersky Anti-Virus from Trebon Company, Inc. of Seattle, WA in the amount of $47,5220, and awarded a bid to a Kansas City, Missouri, company to being lighting renovations at Rezac Auditorium.
