Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across northeast Kansas later today, with the primary threats including large hail, damaging winds and the potential for a few tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters say storms are most likely to develop during the late afternoon and continue into the evening, with a medium level of confidence in severe weather.
Heavy rainfall is also expected overnight into early Thursday morning, which could lead to localized flooding. Areas east of Manhattan have a high likelihood of receiving at least one inch of rain, with some locations possibly seeing more than two inches.
Another round of strong to severe storms is possible Friday afternoon and evening, though confidence in that system remains lower due to uncertainty in timing and available moisture.
