The Manhattan Optimist Lasers 18-and-under softball team won an invitational tournament in Independence, Missouri over the weekend. The Lasers won their first five games at the tournament, but dropped the first championship game of the double eliminaton tournament to the Trenton Missouri Phantoms 5-2. But the Lasers came back to beat the Phantoms 8-0 in the winner take all final with Katie Hodges pitching a shutout. Kylie Rupe also pitched, and led the offense with 11 hits, seven for extra bases. The Lasers are now 26-9 on the season.
