Eight declared ineligible at Miami (FL)

Senior-to-be Jacory Harris along with seven teammates have been declared ineligible for their involvement with imprisoned Miami booster Nevin Shapiro

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) Miami football coach Al Golden has confirmed a number of Hurricanes players have been declared ineligible after a university investigation found the players likely committed NCAA violations by associating with booster Nevin Shapiro.

A person with knowledge of the process tells The Associated Press that eight players, including quarterback Jacory Harris, are ineligible. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no one is authorized to discuss the ongoing investigations by the university and the NCAA. Shapiro is a convicted Ponzi scheme architect serving a 20-year prison sentence for bilking $930 million from investors. He was a Miami booster for much of the past decade.

Golden says the school sent paperwork to the NCAA on Thursday to begin the reinstatement process.
